Quick personal post: Buddhism and Trans Hate

Posted on May 12, 2009 by Linus Posted in Buddhism, Gratitude, Life, transgender, transition .

I had submitted a question to Brian at Daily Buddhism about how to address hatred spewed at trans individuals. Although outside of Brian’s experience I believe he addressed it well as did the many respondents. The more I think about it, the more I believe that being open about myself and my path lessens the possibility of directed hate. Will it get rid of all hatred? No. That exists as long as people see things they don’t understand, cannot explain and don’t want to learn about (closed mind). But perhaps it will lessen for some. We live in times where people actually are far more open. I’m thankful to those that came before and suffered much in their path. And I’m hopeful that those that come after will be able to find their way — whatever path it may be — with little suffering and fear.

    Hi Linus,

I guess was one of your co-workers that was uncomfortable asking questions last week. I wasn’t sure if I should comment or ask questions so i just didn’t say anything. Your site is quite cool and I learned a few things from reading some of your posts. I hope all is well for you.

    Cheers

    Hey John,

Thanks for leaving the comment. I’m pretty open so you can always ask questions and if I feel anything is too personal, I’ll let you know. ๐Ÿ™‚ I prefer if people ask than not. Helps others understand better.

And yes, all is well for me. Thanks for dropping by.

    Linus

I agree – we’re much more open and accepting these days. I think as humanity we’re evolving (albeit slowly) into a greater acceptance of the differences in others. There will always be those who hate another because of those differences, but just as racial injustice is largely frowned on by society, equality is being advanced in so many other ways.

    Hey Linus,

I just checked back in today. Thanks for the response. I’m confused by the terms you use in some of your posts of FTM and MTF. Is it Male Transition Female and Female Transition Male?

    Cheers
    John

FTM means Female-To-Male while MTF means Male-To-Female. So close. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s an indication of direction of “transition”. ๐Ÿ™‚
