Sunday. Usually the day I do laundry, let K sleep in and just putty around the apartment. I usually do a blog entry or two, prepare for the following week’s class and just “fluff off”. The day seemed going well. I had just popped in the Tofurky I was cooking for tonight’s dinner and just finished my soup for lunch. I went to put my bowl into the sink and fill it with water when I hear what sounds like a fountain under the sink.
It can’t be.
I remove all the items under the sink and run the water.
Sure enough, a solid stream of water is falling under it.
Sigh and “CRAP!”, I uttered.
I took a few photos to get a glimpse of how big this thing was (see picture to left) and was shocked. Not only are the pipes copper but they are corroding. I suspect that they are original pipes from when the building was first constructed in the late 70s. I put a call into the super and went out to buy a bucket at the local dollar store. That sits under the pipe until the super can come and look at it tomorrow morning first thing (he’s in NJ so totally understandable). I don’t know if he’ll be able to fix it immediately (all it needs is to have the pipe removed and replaced with either copper or PVC — I’d prefer PVC because of rust issues).
So, needless to say, ruined my mood for the afternoon. At least the Tofurky should be good.
